Derek Fisher takes home $4500 after winning the Swift Silver Mining 40 at 191 Speedway last night.

Fisher started 2nd, behind dash winner Aaron Hatton, but it didn't take Fisher long to grab the lead and he never looked back, as he cruised to an 11th feature win at 191 this season.

The two guys who have dominated 191 this season continued that dominance, as Jamie Ferguson captured last nights fast time award with a 10.977 and he also finished second in the feature.

Feature finish top 5:
1. Derek Fisher
2. Jamie Ferguson

201 Points Standings; Thornsberry leads by a slim margin over Combs

(photo taken by B. Meyer Images / #17 Shannon Thornsberry)

201 released their points standings this afternoon and the battle between Shannon 'Thunder' Thornsberry and Chris Combs is tight.

Thornsberry holds a 30 point lead over Combs. All Thornsberry really needs to do is finish toward the front. Combs needs Thornsberry to have a really bad night and Combs will more than likely have to win again, like he has the past two races.

Both are great drivers, so this should be a very exciting race come Saturday night.

201 points Top 5:

1. Shannon Thornsberry - 890
2. Chris Combs - 860
3. Terry Hicks - 775
4. Stephen Breeding - 665
5. Kenneth Howell - 645

Get out and support these drivers at 201 Saturday night. Also don't forget to head to 191 for Friday and Sunday night late model action. If you're not interested in going to 201, check out Portsmouth Raceway Park for Saturday as they're hosting the Lucas Oil series.

Best of luck to both Shannon and Chris!!!

Thursday night update heading into this weekend

(photo taken by B. Meyer Images / #41 Josh McGuire)

News has surfaced at 191 today, as they have raised the winning payout for their "Swift Silver Mining 40" from $3500 to $4500. If someone can come in and sweep those two races at 191 this weekend they could come out with close to $9000 in winnings. That's huge for the track! Hopefully some bigger named guys will decide to travel to Campton this weekend. 15 drivers have committed so far. I expect there to be over 25 for both nights.

Should be an exciting two nights as well. Derek Fisher and Jamie Ferguson have pretty much owned 191 this season, but with drivers like Justin Ratliff, Chris Combs, Michael Wright, Stephen Breeding, and Shannon Thornsberry coming to town, anything can happen. Combs won the "Wince Mayabb Memorial" last season and he's been as hot as anyone in the Ohio Valley area lately.

201's points championship will be decided this Saturday night, as it has come down to Shannon Thornsberry and Chris Combs. I'm still waiting for 201 to release their updated points standings. Should be extremely close, at least within 30 points, as Combs won this past weekend and Thornsberry finished 8th.

I'll post the updated points standings whenever 201 decides to make them available on their Facebook or website.

Even though it's across the Ohio river, Portsmouth will be hosting a $15,000 to win Lucas Oil series race at PRP Saturday night. Some of the biggest names in dirt late model racing will be there:

Jimmy Owens
Steve Francis
Scott Bloomquist
Eddie Carrier Jr
Jackie Boggs
RJ Conley
Jason Feger
Earl Pearson Jr
John Blankenship
Josh McGuire
Brian Birkhofer
Doug Drown
Steve Casebolt
Dale McDowell
Donnie Moran

Plus many, many more. Should be 40+ late models there.

Everyone needs to get out to 191 Friday and Sunday and either 201 or PRP on Saturday.

Best of luck to all drivers!!!

New Late Model Drivers Top 10 (8/27)

(photo taken by B. Meyer Images)

1. Steve Francis (Ashland) - Francis is coming off of his second Lucas Oil series win at Lawrenceburg this past Saturday. Francis is also second in the Lucas Oil points standings.

2. Jackie Boggs (Grayson) - Boggs is coming off of a DNF at Ponderosa, however he won his heat and lead in the $7500 to win before having engine problems that ended his night.

3. Eric Wells (Hazard) - Wells is coming off of a 8th place finish in New York and a 21st place finish in Virginia for the WoO series.

4. Chris Combs (Isom) - Combs is coming off of a 5th place finish at Ponderosa on Friday and another win at 201 Saturday.

5. Josh McGuire (Grayson) - Josh is coming off of a 7th place finish at Ponderosa Friday and a 2nd place finish at Portsmouth on Saturday.

6. Derek Fisher (Olympia) - Fisher is coming off of a 14th place finish at Ponderosa and another win a 191.

7. Stephen Breeding (Isom) - Coming off of a 2nd place finish at 201.

8. Michael Wright (Isom) - Coming off of a 2nd place finish at Mountain Motor and a 10th place finish at 201.

9. Brandon Kinzer (Allen) - Kinzer is coming off of a 11th place finish at Lawrenceburg's Lucas Oil race.

10. Shannon Thornsberry (Martin) - Coming off of a 8th place finish at 201.

An argument can me made for DJ Wells. He's been racing a lot lately and has been doing well, including a win at Mountain Motor this past Friday night.

Derek Fisher wins at 191 Speedway

(feature winner Derek Fisher)

Derek Fisher took the checkered flag at 191 Speedway last night in tune-up for the big races that will be taking place at 191 this upcoming weekend.

Feature results (Top 5):
1. Derek Fisher
2. Brandon Fouts
3. Steve Stollings
4. Joe Mayabb
5. Jamie Ferguson

This upcoming Friday night, 191 will host the "Swift Silver Mine 40" paying $3000 to the winner and on Sunday night the track will host the 4th annual "Wince Mayabb Memorial" paying $4000 to the winner.

Combs wins at 201; Inches closer to points leader Thornsberry

(feature winner Chris Combs)

Chris Combs dominates the 25-lap feature at 201 last night. With the win Combs inches closer to that track points lead, as current points leader Shannon Thornsberry come away with an 8th place finish.

15 super late models signed in last night at 201. DJ Wells captured last nights fast time award. Wells also won his heat race.

The night didn't go by without some questionable activity. Late in heat #1, Daniel Williams & Michael Paul Howard got into one another coming out of turn 4, and Howard ended up spinning on the front stretch. Williams was sent to the back by track officials for rough driving. Williams didn't like it and stormed off the track. I honestly can't blame him. I seen some contact, but both guys where racing and putting on a good show. Hate to see it end like that, but that's quick judgment call. Valid arguments can be made from both sides. I think they should have let them race. However, 201 is trying to do the right thing and keep things from escalating. Things like this happen.

As for the feature, Combs started on the front row with DJ Wells and no one had anything for him. Combs jumped out to the a straightaway lead in just 3 laps and no one could close the gap. Stephen Breeding used the high line to get to 2nd, as Wells dropped back and finished 5th. Paul Davis and Michael Paul Howard worked their way through the field and each ended up with a top 5 finish.

Feature finish (unofficial):
1. Chris Combs
2. Stephen Breeding
3. Paul Davis
4. Michael P. Howard
5. DJ Wells
6. Terry Hicks
7. Paul Harris
8. Shannon Thornsberry
9. Kenneth Howell
10. Michael Wright
11. Charlie Jude
12. Mark Queen
13. Josh Hall
(Daniel Williams and Jacob Curnutte didn't start feature)

Heat race 1 results:
1. DJ Wells
2. Shannon Thornsberry
3, Charlie Jude
4. Paul Davis
5. Mark Queen
6. Daniel Williams
7. Michael P. Howard
8. Paul Harris

Heat race 2 results:
1. Chris Combs
2. Stephen Breeding
3. Michael Wright
4. Kenneth Howell
5. Josh Hall
6. Terry Hicks
7. Jacob Curnutte

Hollidge wins at Winchester; Wells finishes 21st

(feature winner Dale Hollidge)

Dale Hollidge pulls off the upset at Winchester Speedway in Virginia last night. Hollidge knocks off the stars of the World of Outlaw dirt late model series and brings home $10.000.

Wasn't such a great night for Eric Wells as he was involved in an accident in his heat that brought out a red flag. I'm assuming Wells brought out a back up car and used a provisional and started last in the feature.

Wells is still the heavy favorite for the rookie of the year honors in the WoO dirt late model series.

Feature finish (Top 10):
1. Dale Hollidge
2. Jeremy Miller
3. DJ Meyers
4. Kenny Pettyjohn
5. Josh Richards
6. Dan Stone
7. Shane Clanton
8. Steve Shaver
9. Tyler Hershey
10. Mark Pettyjohn

Francis wins at Lawrenceburg Speedway; Kinzer finishes 11th

(photo taken by B. Meyer Images / Feature winner Steve Francis)

The Kentucky Colonel wins his second Lucas Oil dirt late model series victory this season.

Francis had been on the verge of coming away with a victory lately, but just couldn't get over that hump, until last night in Lawrenceburg, IN at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Francis also come away with a heat victory as well.

Current points leader Jimmy Owens still holds a 50 point lead over Francis as the series is headed down the home stretch of its season.

Next stop for the Lucas Oil series is Friday (Aug. 30) in Attica, Ohio at Attica Speedway. The series will remain in the buckeye state for Saturday night racing as well at Portsmouth Raceway Park for the "Rumble Days at the River" paying $15,000 to the winner. On Sunday (Sep. 1) the series will be in Ripley, West Virginia for the "Hillbilly 100" paying $25,000 to the winner.

Allen's Brandon Kinzer also ventured up to the Hoosier state to race last night and come away with a 11th place finish. He also finished 2nd in his heat.

Kinzer is scheduled to be back in action at Eldora Speedway for the World 100.

(feature winner Mike Marlar)

Tennessee native Mike Marlar took home the $7500 payday at Ponderosa Speedway last night in front of a standing room only crowd in Junction City, KY.

Marlar took the lead from Dustin Neat with 11-laps to go, as Neat got into trouble with the lapped car of Derek Fisher. Grayson's Jackie Boggs started off the feature on the front row and lead the first 11 laps, however Boggs would turn in after 28 laps.

Greg Johnson was last night's fast qualifier with a 12.932 out of the 33 that signed in.

Jackie Boggs, Josh McGuire, Steve Francis, and Victor Lee where your heat race winners. Derek Fisher and Michael Chilton where your consolation race winners.

1. Mike Marlar
2. Brad Neat
3. Dustin Linville

Wells finishes 8th as Lanigan records his 50th WoO win

(Feature winner Darrell Lanigan)

The World of Outlaws late model series made it's way into the northeast Thursday night to Little Valley Speedway in Little Valley, NY.

Union, KY native and one of dirt late model racing's best, Darrell Lanigan cruised to the win Thursday night in his club 29 machine. Lanigan trails points leader Josh Richards by 65 points after last night's win.

Eric Wells finally got the monkey off of his back and got a solid 8th place finish. Wells qualified 7th with a 22.25 and finished 3rd in his heat, behind Shane Clanton and Dan Stone.

Madden wins at Volunteer Speedway; Francis gets 9th

(Feature winner Chris Madden)

Lucas Oil Series made it's way into Bulls Gap, TN for their annual Scorcher 50 Thursday night and Southern Nationals touring driver Chris Madden had the car to beat. He held off Knoxville's Billy Ogle Jr. for the $10,000 pay day.

Ashland's own, Steve Francis started 11th and finished 9th in the 50-lap feature. Another top 10 sure doesn't hurt when you're in a field of cars that was as loaded as this one was Thursday night, but Francis still wasn't able to gain any ground on points leader Jimmy Owens. Owens come away with a 8th place finish and still holds on to his points lead.

Francis will be back in action at the unsanctioned $7500 to win, "Friday Night Rumble" at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY tonight. The next Lucas Oil event will be in Lawrenceburg, IN at Lawrenceburg Speedway Saturday night.

Feature Results (Top 10):

1. Chris Madden
2. Billy Ogle Jr.
3. Dale McDowell
4. Scott Bloomquist

201 Speedway releases updated points standings

With just two points races left before a champion is crowned, 201 has released an updated points standings.

Those who thought that Shannon Thornsberry would run away with the points championship a few weeks ago might be biting their tongue now, as Chris Combs is coming and coming on strong. While Thornsberry still has a decent size points lead, this may come down to the wire with the way Combs has been running lately. Don't underestimate Thornsberry though, he's one of the toughest drivers out there and will do almost anything to capture the track championship, and who can blame him? Since Jarrod Breeding purchased 201 last fall, Shannon Thornsberry has been a regular each week at 201, and even before the Breeding's took over he was a local favorite at 201. He's nicknamed "Thunder" for a reason, so Combs is certainly going to have to take this one away from  Thornsberry, because he isn't going to give it to him.

Grayson native Terry Hicks is also in reach of a track championship, even though he has yet to pick up a win at 201 this year. However, Hicks has played it smart all season, just laying back and letting it all unfold in front of him finishing consistently each week.

Should be an exciting last two weeks at 201 with the close points battle between some very talented drivers.

Points Standings (8/22):
1. Shannon Thornsberry - 825
2. Chris Combs - 760
3, Terry Hicks - 700
4. Brandon Fouts - 625
5. Kenneth Howell - 585
6. Stephen Breeding - 570
7. Michael Paul Howard - 550
8. Raymond Nichols - 535
9. Derek Fisher - 475
10. Paul Davis - 450

Steve Francis & Eric Wells in action tonight

Both touring and local drivers Steve Francis (Lucas Oil Series) and Eric Wells (World of Outlaws) will be back in action tonight.

Francis and the Lucas Oil series will be making a stop in Bulls Gap, TN at Volunteer Speedway tonight. Francis is currently 2nd in points, trailing defending champion Jimmy Owens.

With only one tour victory this season, Francis will look to get the win tonight and hopefully right the ship for the last leg of the tour. It won't be easy, as Jimmy Owens has been a consistent top 5 this season, which should come as little surprise to anyone.

Rookie of the year contender, Eric Wells and the WoO dirt late model series will be at Little Valley Speedway tonight in Little Valley, NY.

Wells currently sits at 7th in the WoO points standings heading into tonight and the current leader for rookie of the year honors. Wells does have one victory on the series this season, but I'm sure he would love to get out of the slump he is in this month as he only has one top 10 finish.

We will try and keep everyone updated on Twitter and should have some results for you either tonight or in the morning.

Best of luck to both Steve & Eric tonight!
