World of Outlaw Rookie of the Year contender and Hazard native, Eric Wells finished up his swing through Michigan this past weekend with the World of Outlaw Dirt Late Model series.
(Friday 8/16) After qualifying 4th out of the 26 entrees at Winston Speedway (Montague, MI), Wells finished 4th in his heat and started 16th in the feature and finished 12th. Michigan native, Jeep Van Wormer won the $10,000 WoO series event, followed by Josh Richards, Rick Eckert, Mike Spatola, and Tim McCreadie.
(Saturday (8/17) Wells qualified 13th in group A on Saturday at Merritt Speedway (Lake City, MI). The 13th fastest time in his group got him a 5th starting spot in his heat, which is also where he finished. Wells missed the final transfer spot by a position and had to earn his way into the feature by finishing in the top 3 in his B-Main race. Wells started on the front row of the 1st B-Main and went on to win the 12-lap race and guarantee a 17th starting position in the feature. Wells went on to finish 15th, as New York's Tim Fuller went on to win the $10,000 feature race. Eric Spangler, Rich Neiser, Darrell Lanigan, and Clint Smith rounded out the top 5.
