World of Outlaws Late Model series coming to 201 Speedway

Not only will 201 Speedway host a $10,000 Lucas Oil Series event next July, the track will also host a WoO series race on May 16th. The race will also be paying $10,000 to the winner.

The two most popular dirt late model series in the country will be coming to Eastern Kentucky and 201 Speedway! Not many tracks around the country can say that they host both series in the same year.

Hats off to the Breedings, Tony Sturgill, and everyone else that made this possible for the great dirt racing fans of EKY.

Can't wait for 2014.

Surprising day of news and rumors

I didn't expect to wake up today and find out some potential HUGE news for a few tracks in the area.

We all know that 201 Speedway is hosting a Lucas Oil series event next year on July 5th, however if you've kept up with 201's Facebook and Twitter, you also likely knew that more big news was coming and today on their Twitter they hinted at potential huge news being announced in the coming days for Friday, May 16th.

I have been informed that it is a $10,000 to win late model race and I know what series it is. You can likely guess pretty easily, but I told that I wouldn't spoil the surprise and leave that to 201.

It is another huge race for 201 Speedway, who is becoming the premier super late model racing track in Kentucky.

The other bit of information I learned today was that the old Salyersville Speedway in Magoffin County would be reopening for next year. I was told that they're already working to get the track opened next spring. Not sure on what divisions they'll be racing, but I'm guessing they'll be running on Friday nights.

If that rumor is true, then you'll now have 191, 201, Lucky 7, Mountain Motor, Salyersville, and Willard all racing weekly next year within a few hours of each other.

This many tracks could potentially hurt other tracks. Hopefully it doesn't, but dirt track racing is an expensive hobby and prices for all things dirt racing keep rising in these tough economic times.

If you're interested in some dirt racing this weekend in the area, then Willard Speedway plans on racing this Friday night. Check out their Facebook page for more information.

That's it for now.

201 Speedway makes donation for McGuire auction

Just a few days after Eddie Carrier Jr. and his wife Jamie announced that they would hold a benefit auction for friend and fellow late model driver, Josh McGuire, 201 Speedway said that they would be donating two season passes for 2014 to Eddie and Jamie.

The 2014 schedule already looks to be the most impressive we've seen in Eastern Kentucky since Thunder Ridge was open over a decade ago, as the Lucas Oil Series is already scheduled for July 5th, with other series expected as well, and also your other unsanctioned shows that will pay $3,000+.

This was a very generous donation from the Breeding's and it should alone raise a lot of money for Josh as he is recovering from his wreck at 201 a few weeks ago.

The online auction should begin next week as the Carrier's will be going to Charlotte this weekend for the World of Outlaw: World Finals to accept more donations from some of the countries most popular drivers.

Benefit auction being organized for Josh McGuire

Eddie Carrier Jr and his wife Jamie are putting together a benefit auction for Josh McGuire to help him out during his recovery following the terrible wreck he had at 201 Speedway last Saturday night.

All the proceeds will be going to Josh.

Kudos to Eddie and Jamie for doing a great thing for their dear friend Josh McGuire and his wife Tracy.

For more information check out Eddie's website: EddieCarrierJr.com

Latest update on McGuire

Latest update on Josh McGuire:

Well after a rough day he is very excited to have walked for the 3rd time today (well that and Sons of Anarchy is on--his favorite show). Early today he was up twice today. Once to walk 3 steps forward, 3 steps back. And then about 5 o'clock he got up and sat in the chair for about 30 minutes. These were not easy feats--it took a lot out of him each time and was in a lot of severe pain. But the goal was to move and that he did! Third time tonight was a charm--he asked to get up and walked to his room door and back with some reduction in pain this time. Still in the hospital--we have to get the pain controlled before we can go home. We will try again tomorrow. We can't brag enough on the St. Mary's staff--they have been so compassionate and such great cheerleaders. Plus--we don't want to forget each of you...Thank you for cheering us on with you messages and prayers.

-Tracy McGuire

Boggs wins Halloween 50 at 201

(photo taken by B. Meyer Images / Halloween 50 winner #4B Jackie Boggs)
What was a cold night, didn't deter the speed of the 800HP super late models, as we seen the previous 201 track record held by Josh McGuire (12.85) broke by 7 different drivers tonight. Josh McGuire eventually got on the track while Jackie Boggs was holding the record with a 12.60, and 'Bad Fast' set both the fast time and new track record with a 12.50.

(photo taken by B. Meyer Images / #41 Josh McGuire's car after wreck)
Sadly though, Josh's night come to an end in his heat race, as he come into turn 1 and flipped his far at least 5 times and was transported to Paul B. Hall Medical Center in Paintsville. Josh was later airlifted to St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, WV where it was determined that he had a broken C1 vertebrae. Prayers go out to Josh and his family!

The night of racing continued on, as Dustin Linville come away with a win in the first heat over Eddie Carrier Jr. Jackie Boggs won heat 2 and 201 track champion Shannon Thornsberry won heat 3.

Boggs started on the front row along side Dustin Linville and took the lead going into turn 1 and didn't look back. Boggs went on to dominate the 50 lap $5000 to win Halloween 50.

Walker Arthur and Linville made runs at Boggs on restarts but never could get by him. Track was very racy, as cars where able to run all over the place, but no one had anything for the 4B machine. Was a good race behind Boggs though, as you seen quite a bit of shuffling and some drivers got a little angry with one another. Very entertaining!

Feature finish (top 8):
1. Jackie Boggs
2. Walker Arthur
3. Tim Dohm (light at scales)
4. Chris Combs
5. Dustin Linville
6. Chris Wilson
7. Stephen Breeding
8. Eddie Carrier Jr.

25 late models entered tonight's race and 20 started the feature.

Rod Conley took home $5000 at Florence last night and Chris Garnes took home $2000 at Atomic.

Congrats to all feature winners from last night and again, our thoughts and prayers go out to Josh McGuire and his family!

Weekend recap

Another weekend in the books for dirt track racing in the area, as we inch closer to winter. With great weather this past weekend, also provided some great racing over the weekend at a few local tracks in the mountains and in central Kentucky.

(photo taken by 191 Speedway / #17 Steve Stollings)
The weekend of racing began in Isom at Mountain Motor Speedway, where Isom native Michael Wright posted the fast time, won his heat, and started on the front row of the feature. However, Wright's night didn't pan out the way he had hoped, as he got caught up with a lapped car and from reports done some serious damage to the car. The night however would end up belonging to Steve Stollings. He picked up the win over Joe King.

Late model feature finish: 1. Steve Stollings 2. Joe King 3. John Kincaid 4. Josh Hall 5. Raymond Nichols 6. Michael Wright 7. Steve Martin 8. Paul Davis (DNS) 9. Kenneth Howell (DNS)

Other winners where: Jamie Maggard (Mods); Tim Mason (Bombers); Logan Burke (4-cyl).

Willard Speedway also ran Friday night. Tyler Carpenter won in the limited late model division, followed by Richie Edwards and James Williamson. Brian Sammons won bombers, followed by Brett Carey and Charlie Mullet. Shane Yates wins 4-cylinders, followed by PJ LeMasters and Roy Wilburn.

(photo taken by Rick Schwallie Photography / #97 Michael Chilton)
It was also announced on Willard's Facebook page that they would not be racing next weekend, due to the DTWC at Portsmouth. They had also plan to race on Saturday October 26th, but will be racing on Friday the 25th instead, because of the Halloween 50 at 201 on the 26th.

Ponderosa Speedway also had one of their biggest racing weekend's of the year this past weekend. They hosted the $3000 to win Ironman Classic Friday night and the $5000 to win Fall Classic Saturday night. Both nights seen a loaded field of cars.

35 cars entered Friday night, with the fast time going to Mike Marlar, who drove his brother Skylar's car. Marlar, Derek Fisher, Michael Chilton, and Greg Johnson where your 4 heat race winners. Your two B-main winners where, Jeff Watson and James Rice.

22 cars made the feature with Michael Chilton coming away with the win over Greg Johnson, Dustin Linville, Stephen Breeding, Derek Fisher, and Dustin Neat. Allen native Brandon Kinzer finished 9th.

(photo taken by Michael Moats / #D8 Dustin Linville)
On Saturday the Fall Classic seen 36 entries with the fast time award going to Dustin Linville, who winded up sweeping the night, as he won his heat and the A-main.

Heat race winners where: Dustin Linville, Brad Neat, Skylar Marlar, and Greg Johnson. B-main winners where: Stephen Breeding and Dan Schlieper.

The two big pay day races around the country this weekend where at Pittsburgh, where racing legend Scott Bloomquist won $20,000 over Billy Moyer and at Magnolia, where Jimmy Owens won $25,000 over Billy Moyer Jr.

Congrats to all the winners from this past weekend!!!

Info for the upcoming weekend

It seems like Fall has finally set in and with more great weather expected this weekend, the racetrack seems like the perfect place to be both tomorrow and Saturday night.

One of two of the only tracks running in the mountains tomorrow night will be Willard Speedway. They discussed moving their racing schedule to Saturday nights, but decided to stick with Fridays. They also hinted at a big night for October 18th. I'm guessing a big payout for all classes, maybe just limited late models and modified's. We will have to see. Gates will be opening at 4, drivers meeting at 6:30, and hot laps begin at 7.

To our west in Junction City, KY, Pondersosa Speedway will be having their 9th annual Ironman Classic paying $2,000 to late models Friday night and on Saturday night they'll also be hosting the $5,000 to win 23rd annual Fall Classic for their super late model division as well. Modified's will being paying $1,500 to win Friday and $2,000 to win Saturday as well. With not many tracks racing in the tri-state area, should be a good turnout.

If you're interested in heading over to Ponderosa for the weekend, check out the following link: Ponderosa Speedway

Super late model racing is back in action this weekend also in the mountains, as Mountain Motor Speedway will race tomorrow night. Their paying $800 late models, $600 to modified, $400 bombers, and $300 4-cylinders. All these payouts are guaranteed.

Lucas Oil series will be off until the Dirt Track World Championship at Portsmouth next weekend. The DTWC weekend kicksoff Thursday, as qualifying and heat racing begins for the modified's. Late models will qualify and race their heats on Friday night. Of course, both features for the modified's and late models will be on Saturday night.

World of Outlaws late model series is off until their World Championship weekend at Charlotte in November.

The two big races this weekend are the Pittsburgher 100 at Pittsburgh Motor Speedway in Pennsylvania paying $10,000 for the NDRL series and the Cotton Pickin' 100 at Magnolia Speedway in Columbus, MS paying $20,000.

That should wrap up enough information for you for the upcoming racing weekend.

Get out and support your local dirt track!!!

Weekend Recap: Boggs wins at Southern & Owens wins Lucas Oil

The dirt track racing season closed for many track in the region this past weekend, with 191 Speedway promoters announcing last week that they wouldn't even be racing their final race of the season this past Saturday due to economic times. A lot of race tracks around the country are struggling, that's why it's so important that people get out and support their local dirt track. 191 promoters did say that they would announce their 2014 rules on their Facebook page soon.

Willard Speedway was one of only two tracks that raced in the area this weekend. Although they don't race super late models, they still host limited late models, open wheel mods, bombers, sport mods, and 4 cylinders.

Friday night winners at Willard where: James Williamson (Limiteds), Jimmy Crabtree (Mods), Fred McGlone (Sports Mods), Brett Carey (Bombers), Brandon Kelly (4-cylinders), Dustin Gwinn (Enduros).

Willard will be racing against this upcoming Friday night as well (Oct. 11).

Lucky 7 raced Friday night as well, but they haven't posted any results on their Facebook page, however we do know that #9 Justin King won limited late model feature.

(photo taken by B. Meyer Images / Feature winner #4B Jackie Boggs)
The big race of the weekend was at Southern Ohio Speedway, just across the river in Wheelersburg, OH. Southern hosted Black Jack & Farley Boggs Memorial paying $3000 to the winner, and to no one's surprise, Jackie Boggs come away with the win.

Feature results:
1. Jackie Boggs

(Dixie Shootout winner #44 Chris Madden)
Lucas Oil series visited the Peach state this past weekend, as they competed at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA. The man who has dominated super late model racing in the south this year, Chris Madden come away with the win. This is Madden's second Lucas Oil win this year and the man doesn't even travel with the series.

Weekend recap (9/30)

Another weekend of racing is in the books and we're another weekend closer to the end of another dirt racing season here in the mountains.

Big news was announced yesterday for 201 Speedway. We all found out that the track will host a Lucas Oil series race on July 5th of next year. The series will be at Muskingum County Speedway in Ohio on the 3rd, Portsmouth Raceway Park on the 4th, and 201 for the 5th. All three events will be paying $10,000 to the winner.

This is huge news for 201. Gets the track national exposure and fans get an opportunity to see some of the nations best dirt late model drivers in their own backyard. Kudos to the Breeding family for getting the series in Eastern Kentucky.

201's Facebook page also hinted at the track hosting another big race. My guess would be that they landed a World of Outlaws event as well and/or a Southern Nationals event. Either or both would be huge as well. If it were to become true, that would mean you would get to see drivers like Jimmy Owens, Steve Francis, Scott Bloomquist, Don O'Neal, John Blankenship, Darrell Lanigan, Josh Richards, Tim McCreadie, Chris Madden, etc.

Would be a great for all of us fans and for the local guys who compete locally to get national exposure as well.

The real question will be can 201 hold all these car haulers, RVs/Campers, and the largest crowd ever to be at the track? I mean 201's pits aren't big, plus it'll be hard on those who decide to get pit passes to park either across the road from the track or up on the hill to walk up and down the hill just to get to the pits, because in no way will they be able to take any spectator parking in the pits for these types of events. Expanding the pits is possible, but that would take a lot of money to do more than likely. It will be interesting to see. If no changes are made, then I'd suggest getting their right as the gates open if you want to avoid a backed up traffic jam on route 201.

Lucas Oil series coming to 201 wasn't the only news coming from 201 this past week. Track owner Jared Breeding has decided that 201 will be closed until the last race of the 2013 season. That race being the 2nd annual Halloween 50 event paying $3,000 to the winner.

191 Speedway hosted a $4000 to win late model race this past Saturday night, as every other track in EKY was off. Derek Fisher captured yet another victory at 191. He and Jamie Ferguson have flat dominated their this season.

On the national circuit from Knoxville, Iowa -- the Lucas Oil series was in town for the Knoxville Nationals crown jewel event paying $40,000 to the winner.

World of Outlaws series points leaders Josh Richards and Darrell Lanigan swept the Lucas Oil weekend winning all 3 A-main features.

Local driver Steve Francis finished 12th Thursday, 6th Friday, and 4th Saturday. He still trails series points leader Jimmy Owens.

Some other notable races going on this upcoming weekend is the 5th annual Black Jack & Farley Boggs Memorial race at Southern Ohio Speedway. It will be a $3000 to win race. The race is usually held at Willard, but SOS will be hosting this year. Not sure if this is a permanent thing or not. $15 general admission.

201 to host Lucas Oil series race in 2014

It was announced tonight by Dirt Racing Media that 201 Speedway will host a Lucas Oil Series sanctioned event year (July 5th). DRM also hinted that this won't be the only big race 201 will host next year. World of Outlaws? Southern Nationals?

Huge news for Jarred Breeding and everyone else at 201 Speedway! Now local fans will get to see the big dogs like Jimmy Owens, Steve Francis, Scott Bloomquist, John Blankenship, Don O'Neal, etc. without having to travel to Portsmouth or Florence.

Weekend recap

(photo taken by B. Meyer Images / #18 Eric Wells)

Friday night meant the opening of Willard Speedway for the first time this year. Many didn't expect the track to open this year, however those doubters were proven wrong as the track opened to a good turn out both car wise and spectators.

It was announced on Willard Speedway's Facebook that they would not be racing super late models this year and the annual Black Jack and Farley Boggs Memorial race would be held at Southern Ohio Speedway on October 5th.

Winners from Friday at Willard:
James Williamson (Limited Late Model)
Jody Puckett (Modified)
Allen Kiser (Sports Mod)
James Crowe (Bomber)
Austin Fonte (4 Cylinder)

Saturday looked bad for racing in the area, as we seen a lot of rain come down. The rain would postpone the Roger Breeding Memorial at 201, however 191 Speedway toughed it out and decided to race. A lot of credit needs to be given to the 191 track prep guys. It was going to take nothing short of a miracle to have a decent racing surface after that much rain, yet these guys still pulled it off as two track records were set. Brandon Fouts would break his own track record with a 10.75, with it to be re-broken just a few cars later by track champion Jamie Ferguson, as he turned a 10.71.

Ferguson would also come away with the win as well. Derek Fisher, Brandon Fouts, Joe Mayabb, and Roger Stacy rounded out the top 5.

Sunday brought us a cool day for some great racing at 201 for their Roger Breeding Memorial race that paid $5000. The evening started out rough as the track was in bad shape after hot laps. Jared Breeding decided to have the track graded and rolled, which helped out tremendously. Qualifying was around a second off of it's usual pace, but the track was back to being very racy for the heat races.

Fast time qualifier Jackie Boggs won the first heat, while RJ Conley won the second heat, McGuire winning the third heat, and 201 track champion Shannon Thornsberry winning the fourth heat.

15 cars where sent on the B-Main of the 33 that entered the race, with only 4 advancing onto the A-Main Roger Breeding Memorial. Chris Garnes ended up winning the B-Main, followed by Derek Fisher, Paul Davis, and Terry Hicks.

20 cars started the A-Main, with Jackie Boggs capturing the win. 2nd was Josh McGuire, followed by RJ Conley, Dustin Linville, Walker Arthur, and Eric Wells.

Really glad we got to see guys like Eric Wells, Walker Arthur, and Chris Garnes race at 201. Wells has been competing with the World of Outlaws all year, while Walker Arthur usually races in Virginia, Carolina's, and Tennessee area. However, this is his third trip to 201 this season. Glad he keeps deciding to come back. Really enjoy seeing him race. Garnes is out of West Virginia, and like the Dohm's, he's one of the top late model drivers in West Virginia. Hope to see these guys make it back in October for the Halloween 50 at 201.

Another great weekend of racing in the mountains.

Congrats to all winners over the weekend!

Boggs wins Roger Breeding Memorial at 201

(photo taken by B. Meyer Images / feature winner 4B Jackie Boggs)

Boggs sweeps the night at 201 Speedway, by capturing the fast time, heat race, and the feature win.

The night started out rough. Track had A LOT of rain on it Saturday and it was super slick and dry. Cars had a very tough time out there. Corners starting to get ruts in them and qualifying laps where close to a whole second off what they usually are. Track record is a 12.85 and yesterdays fast time was a 13.8.

The 201 track prep guys come out and took care of the problem and put together a good racing surface.

The Grayson native took home $5000 last night, as he held off fellow Grayson native Josh McGuire for the win.

RJ Conley took the lead early and led the first quarter of the race, before the 4B of Jackie Boggs put the slide job on Conley to take the lead. McGuire later got 2nd from Conley and challenged Boggs for the lead, but could never find a way around him.

Surprise of the night was World of Outlaws rookie of the year contender Eric Wells showing up. I don't think anyone expected it, but he come out and finished 2nd in his heat and captured a 10 last night as well. Really glad he come, hopefully this isn't the last time we see him this season at 201.

Eddie Carrier Jr couldn't be there. I was told that he didn't have the car ready in time. Didn't get to see John Blankenship either, as a lot thought he may show up since his race shop is about an hour away from 201.

The best racing of the night come from the 4 heat races, especially the 3rd heat race, between Josh McGuire, Eric Wells, and Walker Arthur. Heat race #4 was very exciting also, as Shannon Thornsberry started 4th and took the lead in 1 lap on the high side. He was extremely fast in his heat race. Boggs & RJ Conley where your other two heat race winners.

Feature results (top 5):
1. Jackie Boggs
2. Josh McGuire
3. RJ Conley
4. Dustin Linville
5. Walker Arthur

Great night of racing at 201.... Congrats to Jackie Boggs on the win!

Mother Nature presented us with a blessing?

We've all cursed mother nature plenty of times this year, whether it be that it ruined your race plans, a cookout, a football game, etc. It happens and no one can help it - as she struck yet again Friday night at Florence and canceled the Ralph Latham Memorial Lucas Oil race, and rained out the Roger Breeding Memorial last night at 201.

However, just when you thought your racing weekend was ruined, 201 gets to reschedule their Roger Breediing Memorial $5000 to win super late model race for TODAY, yes today. Also it just so happens that the Lucas Oil boys are still in the area as well. They may have been rained out Friday, however the ran last night at Brownstown Speedway in Indiana and they are off until Thursday, before they head to Knoxville, Iowa.

Lucas Oil driver, the "Salt Rock Express" Eddie Carrier Jr has already committed to coming. Jimmy Owens planned out coming for the Hatfield/McCoy Feuding 50 back in July before it got rained out. So he may show up, because his race shop is only a few hours away in Tennessee. So is Lucky 7's Post World 40 winners Scott Bloomquist's race shop. We also may get to see the 2013 World 100 winner, John Blankenship!

What a great opportunity us fans have here. I'm not in anyway saying those guys will be there, but it's actually highly possible. Plus we already get to see guys who committed to coming earlier in the week like: Boggs, McGuire, Linville, Thornsberry, Conley, Kinzer, Dohm, Hawkins, Fisher, Combs, Fouts, Wright, Harris, Howell, Davis, etc etc etc.

We could possibly see 35-40 late models this evening, plus some of the best open wheel modified drivers in the Ohio Valley area.

I know folks have to work, go to school, etc on Monday, but I think venturing over to 201 Speedway will be well worth your time and money. It's really a blessing in disguise, because we all thought that mother nature won another weekend of dirt racing, but she left us with a perfect day today.

I wouldn't hold my breath, but it would be something special for not only 201 Speedway, but for us fans as well to see guys like Owens, Bloomquist, Marlar, Blankenship, etc race in our own backyard.

Should be a great day for racing. The weather is supposed to be in the high 60s and low 70s during the day and get pretty cool overnight, so everyone needs to bring their colder weather gear for late on this evening.

Gates open at 2 PM - Drivers meeting at 5 PM - $20 general admission - $35 pit pass - Kids 10 & under get in free both gen admission and pits

Only late models & modified's will be qualifying. Bombers and 4-cylinders will be drawing.

Hope to see everyone there!

Thursday night information for upcoming weekend

- Tomorrow night kicks off yet another racing weekend in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. Willard Speedway will be open for the first time this year tomorrow night. Although there won't be any super late model racing at the track this year, there will still be modified's, limited late models, bombers, and 4-cylinders.

It's great that a lot of tracks are still trying to run in the area. We now have 5 dirt racing tracks in EKY. That's great for the sport. Hopefully these tracks can work together so that they don't end up hurting each other in the long run.

- Saturday night is the big race of the weekend in EKY at 201 Speedway, for the Roger Breeding Memorial paying $5000 to the winner. Drivers like Jackie Boggs, Dustin Linville, Josh McGuire, Brandon Kinzer, RJ Conley, Chris Combs, Shannon Thornsberry, and Derek Fisher are expected to be there. Should be a great night of racing.

Gates open at 3 - Drivers meeting at 6:30 - Hot laps start around 7 - Gen. Admission: $20 - Kids 10 & under free for stands & pits - Pit passes $35.

- Lucas Oil series gets going again tomorrow night as well in the Bluegrass state, for the Ralph Latham Memorial at Florence Speedway. Saturday night the series crosses the Ohio river into the Hoosier state to compete for $10,000 at Brownstown Speedway. Steve Francis will be attempting to make up some ground on current points leader Jimmy Owens. The gap has widened over the course the last month or so between he and Owens.

- Eric Wells and the World of Outlaws late model series will also be back in action for the Keyser Down & Dirty 100 at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan. Qualifying is tomorrow night and the feature is Saturday. Wells still is the favorite for the WoO's rookie of the year award.

- 191 Speedway will be running all classes except for super late models Saturday night. Gates open at 4 PM.

- Lucky 7 Speedway will only be racing go-karts this weekend.

- Mountain Motor Speedway will not be running.

- Let's hope mother nature holds stays away this weekend. I haven't been able to go to a lot of races these past few months because of work, so hopefully mother nature doesn't ruin this weekend for me and everyone else that plans on heading out to the tracks tomorrow and Saturday night.

Best of luck to all drivers this weekend. Be safe, be professional, and go out and support your local dirt track!
